Tuesday night we headed towards Redmond to see a vet. This time when we got out of the car someone was with Cody - Sappho! We were here to visit Maya and Sappho's vet. Cody wasn't getting seen by the vet, but he's had a lot of very negative
vet experiences and very few positive ones. He came in so he could have
a fun visit in the environment of a vet without being muzzled, poked,
lifted, or otherwise handled in any fashion he didn't enjoy.
Sappho had an appointment to see the skilled and wonderful Dr. Siegler at
Animal Healing Center. We've seen Dr. Siegler ever since we moved here and he has treated Sappho's terrible enviromental allergies with expertise and balance that I haven't seen with previous vets. He takes care to do the least invasive approach, use holistic remedies when possible, and Western when it can't be treated more naturally. He is also upfront and willing to do whatever it takes to maintain quality of life, even if it means at the expense of quantity of life. Because of his skill Sappho has reduced down her steroid use to every other day, and sometimes every third day, where before she took it every day. Plus there is one extra special thing about Dr. Siegler that I love...
He's a rattie fan! That was the first clue that he was a quality vet! This is Jonah, his deceased rattie boy, but Dr. Siegler has a new rattie now. Every rattie owner knows a home isn't really a home without a rattie!
We entered the waiting room and Sappho led the charge, showing Cody how exciting it is to be here! She hopped up on the seats and stared over the counter top, just waiting for one of the staff to make eye contact so she could do her squeaks and dances.
Cody joined, taking all the smells and sounds. In the front office are several small dogs who stay in the reception area with their mommas, and on the other side of is a large cat cage that houses one or two adoptable kitties.
After a few minutes Maya and Sappho dragged me into the back and into a waiting room. There, after some treats from the vet tech, the waiting for Dr. Siegler started....
Sappho listens for someone approaching. |
"I hear someone out this door too!" |
"I'm tired of waiting Mom!" |
"What if I listen extra hard?" |
"What if we listen together" |
"Here he comes!" |
"This guy is awesome!" |
Both dogs got lots of tasty treats and pets, and Cody was just crazy over Dr. Siegler. Sappho is madly in love with Dr. Siegler and Cody likely gained a lot of confidence around him from her. Everyone had a great experience, Sappho got some blood drawn and the medical all clear, and Cody had a vet visit full of fun and treats without a single negative part of his experience.
